Where creativity becomes a language for healing
The Play Way
What happens here
At The Play Way, therapy is a creative and interactive process.
Drama Therapy is a form of Arts Therapy – a way of doing therapy that doesn't rely on talking alone.
Through creativity, movement, imagination, and symbolic expression, we explore experiences, emotions and relationships in ways that feel natural, accessible and meaningful.
Ways to work together
The Play Way offers a range of creative therapeutic spaces for individuals, relationships, and groups.
The Play Way philosophy
- Safety allows vulnerability
- Curiosity softens fear
- Expression transforms experience
- Connection creates change
Growth is rarely linear, but it is possible. When the body is listened to, when story is honoured, and when play becomes a pathway, new ways of being emerge.
About Kathryn
Kathryn is an HPCSA registered Arts Therapist trained in Drama Therapy and the founder of The Play Way.
Her work is rooted in a deep respect for the ways human beings make meaning of their lives — through stories, relationships, and imagination.
She is particularly interested in how creative processes support people in exploring emotions, reflecting on their experiences, and discovering new possibilities for growth.
The Play Way reflects her commitment to holding thoughtful spaces where insight unfolds in ways that feel both grounded and alive.
What is Drama Therapy?
A recognised form of psychotherapy that uses creativity, imagination, and the body to support reflection, expression, and psychological growth.
By working with story, symbol, and lived experience, Drama Therapy offers a way of exploring personal and relational patterns with both curiosity and insight.
Who this work may support
Creative therapeutic work may be helpful for individuals who are exploring:
- Emotional overwhelm or anxiety
- The impact of past experiences or trauma
- Patterns within relationships
- Questions of identity or life transitions
- Difficulties expressing emotions through words alone
- The desire for deeper self-understanding and personal growth
Each person's journey is unique. The work offers a space where experiences can be approached thoughtfully, allowing new understanding and possibilities to emerge.

Support the work
The Play Way is committed to gradually expanding access to creative therapeutic spaces for individuals, schools, and community organisations who may not otherwise have access to this kind of work.
Support contributions help make it possible to offer therapy sessions, group programmes, and creative resources in settings where they are most needed.
Reflections
Experiences within therapeutic spaces are often deeply personal. At times, participants choose to share reflections about what the process has meant for them.
“Kathryn is a dynamic facilitator who establishes a deeply grounded and responsive container for group work. Her facilitation honours the complexity of inner landscapes, which invites participants to explore delicate dualities, personal rituals and what is sacred, safe and precious within.”
“Kathryn is a calm and thoughtful therapist who explains things clearly and creates a space that feels genuinely non-judgmental. She gives you room to engage in your own way and at your own pace, while still gently encouraging interaction and reflection without ever making it feel forced.”
“Tending the Inner Altar was an awesome experience. It was a slow, creative exploration of identity, ego, and drive. Through creating a physical representation of our inner worlds and using clay to explore our roots, the sessions were incredibly reflective.”
